Course Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Apply the fundamental laws of thermodynamics to real-world Nigerian contexts, especially within industries like power generation and automobile manufacturing.
- Analyze thermodynamic cycles (Rankine, Brayton, etc.) and their applications in Nigerian industries.
- Solve practical thermodynamic problems using simple office tools (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
- Design and present thermodynamic simulations using Canva.
- Work collaboratively to propose thermodynamic system improvements for Nigerian industries.
Activities:
Simulation Task: Simple heat engine analysis using MS Word to plot efficiency vs temperature.
Case Study: Analysis of Egbin Thermal Power Station’s efficiency and energy losses.
Role Play: Students assume roles of engineers in a power plant, identifying ways to improve efficiency.
