Course Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Apply the fundamental laws of thermodynamics to real-world Nigerian contexts, especially within industries like power generation and automobile manufacturing.
  2. Analyze thermodynamic cycles (Rankine, Brayton, etc.) and their applications in Nigerian industries.
  3. Solve practical thermodynamic problems using simple office tools (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
  4. Design and present thermodynamic simulations using Canva.
  5. Work collaboratively to propose thermodynamic system improvements for Nigerian industries.

Activities:
Simulation Task: Simple heat engine analysis using MS Word to plot efficiency vs temperature.
Case Study: Analysis of Egbin Thermal Power Station’s efficiency and energy losses.
Role Play: Students assume roles of engineers in a power plant, identifying ways to improve efficiency.
